The Development of St.Michael’s Church Building
September 2008
St.Michael’s Church is to be closed for internal reordering work from Monday 22nd September until the New Year. This bulletin gives the latest up to date information concerning the plans.
As a reminder about this first stage of work, phase 1, the plans include the following:
Ø Create level access in the nave of the church and introduce under-floor heating
Ø Provide new WC facilities and a new kitchen
Ø Move the church office to the vestry and open up the back of the nave
Ø Rewire and install new lighting in the interior of the church
Ø Redecorate of the interior of the church
What is the Financial Situation?
In previous bulletins we reported that application had been made to Veolia Environmental Trust for financial support. Sadly however the Trust was unable to offer support for this present project.
It was also necessary to delay the project from a start early in 2008 to September while the Trust considered the application and weddings booked for the summer period were held. This has resulted in a 7% increase in overall project costs.
The cost of the proposed work is now a little over £467,000. £32,000 has been spent to date leaving £435,000 to find.
At present we have some £245,000 available, which includes moneys from the sale of 10 Church Street, the pledged sums and estimated reclaimed tax.
And so a balance of approximately £190,000 is still outstanding.
Where shall I worship on Sundays?
Ø When St.Michael’s Church is closed, worship will take place on Sunday mornings either at the Rest Room or at Sutton Hill Church or at Woodside Church. On Sunday evenings services will be held either at Sutton Hill Church or we will join with Madeley Baptist Church. Details as shown on page 4.
Ø If you require a lift by car – there will be a list of people in the weekly news sheet who can offer transport from St.Michael’s Church on Sunday mornings. Do make use of them.
Ø All other information can be discovered by asking a member of the St.Michael’s Church DCC.
