Regular concerts and events take place at St.Michael's throughout the year. These are all of a high standard and are well worth coming to. Here are pictures of recent concerts with the Eroica Camerata Orchestra and the Darby Singers with Kate Lefroy on Saxophone.

St.Michael’s Church has now been closed for internal reordering work since the end of September and will reopen again at Easter 2009. This bulletin gives the latest up to date information concerning the work carried out so far. 

As a reminder about this present work, the plans will achieve the following:

Ψ      Create level access in the nave of the church and introduce under-floor heating

Ψ      Provide new WC facilities and a new kitchen  

Ψ      Move the church office to the vestry and open up the back of the nave 

Ψ      Rewire and install new lighting in the interior of the church 

Ψ      Redecorate of the interior of the church 

What has happened so far? 

Our congratulations go to builders EJ&GJ Groom on receiving the 'Best Commercial Builder in Britain' award at the Master Builder of the Year Awards 2008 for their work at the Trinity Centre at Meole Brace in Shrewsbury.

We are delighted that St.Michael’s Church is in such good hands for our own building project. 

At present in the church new heating pipes, electrical circuitry and cabling are being installed in the new concrete floor areas in preparation for the installation of under floor heating. 

Extensions to the chancel staging are now complete and the WCs and kitchen are under construction. 

What is the Financial Situation? 

The total cost of the project is about £460,000 – funds are in place for about half this total project sum. The offer by one family in the church to underwrite the project was made because there were not sufficient funds available to enable the project to start. This should be viewed more as an interest free loan than an outright gift, therefore the church still needs to work to find money to pay off the bills as they come in and reduce as much as possible the underwritten amount.

Our Fund Raising Team is looking to arrange a number of possible activities to go towards meeting these costs including: 

1.    Sponsor a new light as a Christmas Gift for the Church

3.    A Friends of St.Michael's organisation – for those interested in supporting the church both here and abroad

4.    A Quiz night – an evening of fun to raise awareness of the project

5.    Events after the re-opening are being planned

6.    Selling items from our homes on eBay / ‘Cash in the attic’

7.    Charity Car Wash (by the TARDIS group)

8.    Continuing applications to funding organisations

St.Michael’s Church is to be closed for internal reordering work from Monday 22^nd September until the New Year. This bulletin gives the latest up to date information concerning the plans. 

As a reminder about this first stage of work, phase 1, the plans include the following:

What is the Financial Situation? 

In previous bulletins we reported that application had been made to Veolia Environmental Trust for financial support. Sadly however the Trust was unable to offer support for this present project. 

It was also necessary to delay the project from a start early in 2008 to September while the Trust considered the application and weddings booked for the summer period were held. This has resulted in a 7% increase in overall project costs. 

The cost of the proposed work is now a little over £467,000. £32,000 has been spent to date leaving £435,000 to find. 

 At present we have some £245,000 available, which includes moneys from the sale of 10 Church Street, the pledged sums and estimated reclaimed tax.

 And so a balance of approximately £190,000 is still outstanding.

Where shall I worship on Sundays?

 Ψ      When St.Michael’s Church is closed, worship will take place on Sunday mornings either at the Rest Room or at Sutton Hill Church or at Woodside Church. On Sunday evenings services will be held either at Sutton Hill Church or we will join with Madeley Baptist Church. Details as shown on page 4.

 Ψ      If you require a lift by car – there will be a list of people in the weekly news sheet who can offer transport from St.Michael’s Church on Sunday mornings. Do make use of them.

 Ψ      All other information can be discovered by asking a member of the St.Michael’s Church DCC.
